Forest Bathing – Shinrin-Yoku
Location: Meet at Wellness Studio
Time: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday at 9:30 am – 10:50 am
Immerse yourself in nature and let the forest help you find a sense of renewal. Our Forest Bathing – Shinrin-Yoku is a wellness therapy that helps combat the “nature deficit disorder” that so many urban dwellers experience. Take time to breathe deep and benefit from the woodland’s bounty while deepening your appreciation of the earth we all share.
Explore the forest on Reservoir Hill, on the West side of the resort just steps away from your room, while taking in the atmosphere with all your senses. Look for hawks, gray squirrels, chipmunks, and more as you feel the peaceful breeze blowing through the pines and oak leaves. Inhale and let the natural aroma of the San Juan Forest fill your lungs and release stress from the inside out.
A study of the Japanese tradition of forest bathing—called shinrin-yoku—found that calm excursions into the forest actually reduce stress hormone production, improve feelings of happiness and free up creativity, as well as lower heart rate and blood pressure, boost the immune system and accelerate recovery from illness.
Science has also found that trees give off essential oils called “phytoncides” to help protect their surroundings—including you—from harmful insects, germs, and viruses. What a gift! Get your dose of nature on a Forest Bathing Hike.
Please note: Hikes may be catered to meet the needs of each specific group. Please wear hiking attire. You may want to dress in layers as the weather may change at any moment.
